Under Invitation of prof Pengwan Chen, Prof Zoran Ren form University of Maribor, Slovenia visited BIT in October 2015. He gave three talks on the 20th, 22th and 26th October with the titles: "Introduction to Metallic Cellular Material", "Open-cell Metallic Cellular Materials" and "Closed-cell Metallic Cellular Materials".
Short Bio:
Zoran Ren was born in Maribor, Slovenia, in 1963. He has received a diploma engineer degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maribor in 1987 and continued with postgraduate study at the same university. Upon receiving his M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1990 he moved to the University College of Swansea, Wales, UK, where he worked as a research assistant at the Department of Civil Engineering, specialising in the advanced computational simulations with the finite element method. There he submitted and successfully defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "Progressive Fracturing under Dynamic Loading Conditions" in 1993. He then returned to the University of Maribor to pursue the academic career. He was promoted to the Full professor position at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 2005 and is responsible for Engineering Design subjects. He is the Head of Institute of Structures and Design and leads the Laboratory for Advanced Computational Engineering. His scientific research interests are primarily related to investigations of dynamic engineering problems and characterisation of cellular materials with advanced computational simulations and experimental testing. Professionally he and his team are specialists in road safety design and have developed 2 patents and more that 20 modern vehicle restraint systems. Zoran Ren has travelled and collaborated with many colleagues world-wide in various research projects. He is also the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow.
