The 14th International Detonation Symposium (IDS) was held from April 11th to April 16th, 2010, at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, located in the town of Coeur d’Alene in Idaho State, USA. PhD student of SPC, Mr. Zhongbin Zhou attended this conference and gave a poster presentation entitled "Deformation, fracture and mechanical properties of PBX under dynamic loading by using digital speckle correlation method".
The International Detonation Symposium started in 1951, and was originally a Navy-sponsored discussion. In subsequent years it has been sponsored by both DOD and DOE labs, and has grown to over 450 participants and with more than 250 papers presenting experiments and models of detonation phenomena, shock, properties of explosives, equations of state, etc. The purpose of the symposia is to bring together scientists actively engaged in research on detonation and associated phenomena from all over the world. The papers presented here and the discussion generated after the presentations are documented as hardbound proceedings that are recognized as primary reference in the field of detonation science. Now, each symposium is organized by an Organizing Committee consisting of representatives from the sponsoring labs, with a Local Chair from the hosting institution, and a Continuing Chair from the Navy. Nearly 300 scholars and scientists, coming from different countries of the world, were present at the14th IDS conference. More than 200 papers were accepted, which includes about 150 oral presentations and approximately 40 posters for the exchange of ideas and experimental techniques.
