The 17th biennial International Conference of the APS Topical Group on Shock Compression of Condensed Matter was held from 26th June to 1st July, 2011, at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel, Chicago, Illinois state, USA. Two PhD students of SPC, Mr. Zhongbin Zhou and Qiang Zhou, attended the conference. Mr. Zhongbin Zhou gave an oral presentation entitled "Study on Dynamic Fracture and Mechanical Properties of a PBX simulant by Using DIC and SHPB Method" and Mr. Qiang Zhou gave an oral presentation entitled "Fabrication of W-Cu Composite by Hot-Shock Consolidation". The two students won the student’s scholarship which was provided by the conference committee.
The American Physical Society (APS) Topical Group on Shock Compression of Condensed Matter (GSCCM) was founded in 1984. The objective of the Topical Group is to foster the development and exchange of information in the discipline of shock compression science. APS SCCM International Conference was held every two years and its purpose was to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and technical information for scientists and engineers studying the physics, chemistry, mechanics, and materials science of condensed matter at high pressures. This conference was organized by faculties mainly come from Los Alamos National Lab, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Sandia National Lab, Army Research Lab and Air Force Research Lab, and many universities. Nearly 400 scholars and scientists, coming from different countries of the world, were present at this conference. About 300 papers were accepted, which includes about 200 oral presentations and approximately 100 posters for the exchange of ideas and experimental techniques.
