On Oct. 21, 2011, Prof. Fabrice Pierron of the Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Research Group (LMPF), Arts et Métiers ParisTech in Chalons en Champagne, France visited SPC under the invitation of Prof. Pengwan Chen. Prof. Pierron gave a lecture entitled “Novel Photomechanics Approach to High Strain Rate Testing of Materials”.
Introduction to Prof. Fabrice Pierron
Dr. Fabrice Pierron is Professor at Arts et Métiers ParisTech (previously ENSAM) in Chalons en Champagne, France and founder of the Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Research Group (LMPF, 20 people, www.lmpf.net). He graduated from ENSEM in Nancy, France, in 1989, and received his PhD from Lyon University, France, in 1994. After an Assistant Professor position at the Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne from 1994 to 1999, he moved to Arts et Métiers ParisTech on his current position. Dr Pierron is an expert in mechanical testing of composite materials but has been focusing his research on the use of novel identification strategies based on full-field measurements and heterogeneous tests for about ten years. In particular, he has been instrumental in the development of the Virtual Fields Method. Dr. Pierron has published more than 70 international journal papers, mainly in composites testing and the Virtual Fields Method. He is presently Editor-in-Chief of the international journal "Strain".
